Finish
We prepare straight and curved board edges for smooth machine or hand-applied edge banding. Save time at assembly by starting with panels that need no further trimming.

When you order edge-band ready from our Germiston workshop, every board leaves here with square or radius edges that are precisely sized for your chosen tape thickness. This service is purpose-built for cabinetmakers, shopfitters and joineries who need to go straight from delivery to banding, without hours wasted squaring up or cleaning rough saw cuts. We work with popular materials like melamine-faced chipboard, MDF, plywood and birch ply, ensuring the edge is smooth enough for immediate glue adhesion or hot-melt application.
This is not a one-size-fits-all finish. We’ll match the edge detail, radius work and tolerance you specify in your drawing. Whether you run edge banders from Germany, Taiwan or Benoni, our operators will prep your panels for your machine’s sweet spot. Straight runs, tight curves, inside radii and panel corners can all be set up for trouble-free feeding.
Edge-band ready boards are ideal for South African workshops that need reliable results and quick turnaround. Whether you’re producing kitchen carcasses, commercial cabinets, shopfitting panels or school lockers, you know how much time gets wasted tidying up rough edges by hand. With panels prepped for edge banding, your crew can move straight from delivery to assembly, keeping production on track even if there are power cuts or interruptions during your shift.
This finish is less suited for small woodworking studios that prefer hand-shaping, or for custom furniture-makers working with uneven reclaimed timber. It is built for those who use edge banding machines, hot air or glue pot, and need repeatable quality batch after batch.
Panels are CNC profiled in our Germiston bay to your chosen shape and size, including any radiused corners or curved components. The edge is then calibrated to suit common banding widths, such as 1 mm ABS or 2 mm PVC, depending on specification. Unlike rough saw cuts, each face and edge is free from saw tooth marks and ready for immediate banding.
If you specify a glue type or require extra sanding for a particular adhesive, let us know at ordering. Our operators handle sheets up to standard 2.7 x 1.8 metre size, with most popular brands and grades in stock for rapid turnaround.
A joinery in Alberton receives an order for 50 flat-pack school lockers. They email us a DXF with their panel layouts, including curved hand-hole corners and edges to take 2 mm PVC tape. We nest the panels for the most efficient material use, cut them on the CNC, and finish each edge to band-ready quality. When the boards reach the school or the joiner's floor, every edge is machine-smooth, no extra planing or sanding required, even on curved door panels. Installers load the banding reels, feed the panels and get through the batch without rework.
This same process works for retail counters in Durban or built-in wardrobes in Gqeberha. Consistency from the first door to the last saves costs on every job.

It’s easy to miss an edge or overlook tight inner radii in busy production. Check that your drawings clearly mark every edge that needs banding, and specify banding thickness per edge if they vary. Double-check that your curves meet your machine’s bending limits, especially on in-house jigs or older edge banders.
If in doubt, ask. The Finishes page lists other prep options for timber, acrylic and powder-coating. For complex builds, see Machines for our CNC and panel saw capabilities. Send a message through our contact form with your files and specs, and our team will walk you through the options before spindle hours start.
